Mawlid al-Nabi is observed on 12 Rabi al-Awwal by most Sunni Muslims and on 17 Rabi al-Awwal by many Shia Muslims. It moves about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year, cycling through all seasons over about 33 years. Some Muslims, notably Salafi communities, do not observe it.
When Is Mawlid al-Nabi?

How It Is Observed
Recitation of the Quran and poetry praising the Prophet, processions, lectures on his life and teachings, charity, communal meals. (Note: observance varies, some Muslim scholars consider it an innovation.)
