The SGPC and most gurdwaras observe Guru Gobind Singh's Gurpurab on Poh Sudi 7 in the traditional lunar Sikh calendar, which falls in late December or January, occasionally twice in one Gregorian year. The original Nanakshahi calendar fixes it on January 5.

Why It Matters
Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666-1708) was the tenth and final human Sikh Guru. He founded the Khalsa, gave Sikhs their distinct identity (the 5 Ks), and declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal living Guru.
