Why It Matters

Bandi Chhor Divas ("Day of Liberation of Prisoners") commemorates the release of Guru Hargobind Ji from Gwalior Fort in 1619, along with 52 other Hindu princes he refused to leave without. It is the Sikh interpretation of the Festival of Lights.

Illuminating the Gurdwara and home with lights and candles, fireworks, Gurdwara services, sharing of sweets and festive meals.
