Epiphany (Three Kings Day)

The Magi visit the Christ child — the revelation of Jesus to the Gentiles.

📅 January 6

Why It Matters

Epiphany (meaning "manifestation") celebrates the visit of the Magi (Wise Men) to the infant Jesus, marking the revelation of Christ to the Gentile world. In Eastern Christianity, it also commemorates Jesus's baptism.

How It Is Observed

Church services, the blessing of homes with chalk (marking the year and initials CMB), gift-giving in many cultures (Spain, Latin America), the final day of Christmas celebrations.

Sacred Text

On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
