Akshaya Tritiya (the third day of inexhaustible merit), any action performed on this day is believed to bring inexhaustible good fortune. It is traditionally celebrated as the birthday of Parashurama and, according to Hindu tradition, marks the beginning of the Treta Yuga. Popular tradition also holds that the sage Vyasa began dictating the Mahabharata to Ganesha on this day.
